Gps enabling Shoping APPS

Roaming around the city and looking for cool options? Smartphones are set to make this task easier as well. Mobile application makers are gradually using Global Positioning System or the GPS to track down your exact location and present to you a wide variety of exclusive deals from stores nearby.

"GPS, which people often relate to tracking movements, can actually be used to push exclusive offers. When a person is exploring a shopping mall, her mobile device can be sent exclusive offers which she could redeem when she visits the particular store and shows the coupon code or the app. And all this comes from free applications. Isn't that cool?" said Vivek Ahuja who designed an application for such shoppers.

Cross platform price comparison app Zopper uses the same GPS technology to present a user with retail prices of a wide range of products - both from a store nearby you and top e-commerce websites. "We give a platform to the offline stores to communicate with customers and the best part is that they can compete with the e-tailers by registering with us. Users get prices of their searched products from both offline stores and online retailers. This makes decision making very easy," said a spokesperson of the company.

Ahuja's app, Zapify, rewards users who visit an affiliated store more than 3 times and scans a barcode present at such stores. With more than 100s of restaurants, cafes and salons registered with the app from NCR, the app provides exclusive discounts searched through your GPS location.

"Paper vouchers and loyalty punch cards are out of date. Zapify delivers real-time delight on your mobile phone. As you eat, drink and shop, Zapify will show you all the amazing discounts and all the hot deals up for grabs. Besides that, using this free app guarantees you win some great free stuff as you scan the barcode present in those stores," said Vivek Ahuja.

Launched two years back, Zapify was conceptualized and created by technology enthusiasts Anas Siddiqui and Vivek Ahuja. In a recent interaction with TOI, the duo said that they are planning to cover more cities including Lucknow in the near future.
